Running a Bake Sale — A Quick Guide
Every year group takes a turn running a bake sale this year, so here's everything you'll need when it's your turn.
About two weeks before
-
🧁 Reach out to your classes to drum up support — you're looking for bakers and helpers for the day.
-
🍪 Encourage a good spread of donations, including gluten-free, nut-free, egg-free, dairy-free and vegan options. These are always popular and well worth having their own section.
-
🖍️ Create a poster to share with school community - here are some templates to get you started!
On the day
-
🍰 Set up from 11.30am, sell from 12 noon, then clear up — you should be finished by around 12.30pm.
-
📦 Collect the baked donations from the office and bring them down.
-
🎂 Tables and cones will already be set up for you, along with containers of change and card machines.
What to bring
-
💰 You'll need to source brown sandwich bags (around 100–120 is a good guide — Sainsbury's stocks them), a few rolls of kitchen roll, disposable gloves, and some plastic bags for rubbish.
Don't forget the SASCs
-
🍎 Take a tray of assorted goodies down to the SASCs — they'll sell them for you and are always wonderfully supportive of our bake sales. Pop back the following week to collect the money and pass it to treasurers Sean or Chris.
Setting prices
-
🪙 Price things at whatever feels reasonable. As a rough guide: £1 for most items, "two for £1" on smaller bits, and around £2 for larger ones — but nothing under 50p.
Clearing up
-
🛒 Wipe down and fold the tables, and return the containers to the office for collection.
One last tip
-
🎩 Ms McGhee is especially fond of chocolate/marshmallow top hats!
We love cake and we love a bake sale here — if you have any questions at all, just sing out. 😋
